For the past several years I’ve primarily blogged on the topics of parenting, marriage, and family ministry. All of these topics have been in my wheel house as I’m a parent of 6, a husband of 18 years, and a family pastor.
I love to dialogue around these topics. I believe with all my heart that with media, schools, and per pressure screaming at our children, I’ve been called to help parents raise their voice in a very loud world. I alsobelieve husbands need to continually work on their marriages and I’m thrilled to sit down with fellow pastors and discuss best practices surrounding how the church can and should engage the family.
With all that being said though, you may have (or not) noticed that I have’t had much to say over the past few months. Naturally, if you know me, you know that that can’t possibly be the case… I speak frequently, but just not here online.
Some of you know, that as of January 1 my role has shifted one last time at work (fingers crossed). As the Associate Pastor of Fellowship I’ve been able to continue to engage families, preach, and lead our pastoral staff. My new responsibilities are oversight of the pastoral team, preaching, and Global Missions.
Global Missions has been my heartbeat all of my life. I received my call to ministry after reading Elizabeth Elliot‘s book Through the Gates of Splendor. I’ve had the privilege of leading 15 trips to 10 countries and have stepped on every continent except Antarctica. I love experiencing different cultures. I love people, foods, languages, sights and sounds. I was made for missions!
As my roles shift, I’ve come to learn that everything in my life shifts with it. It takes a while to re-balance things out again. About three months to be exact! So here’s the deal:
I’ve been a pastor, a counselor, a coach, a dad, a husband, a soldier, a missionary, a janitor, a writer, a student, an entrepreneur, a carpenter, and many more things that aren’t coming to me right now. Simply put – God has given me a very full life already at the age of 38… and now I’ve got a lot to say.
I’m going to expand the theme of this blog to what it means to “Live a Life that’s Owned by God“.
1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, A PEOPLE FOR GOD’S OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…”
So what’s going to change?
I’m going to be blogging more on expanded topics. It’s going to be a lot more raw…gut level honesty (going to make a few people uncomfortable). I’m going to be challenging, profound, and often times very sarcastic.
…should be fun… or a complete disaster. Can’t wait to see.
Hope you enjoy the conversation.
